KFAI: Minneculture

These are a few short pieces I produced for KFAI, an independent station in Minneapolis. The stories are part of the series, Minneculture: stories about the arts, history and landscape of Minnesota, told by diverse voices from across the state.

Imagine WNBA star Maya Moore trying to sink a 20-foot jumper while wearing a full-length skirt. That would be tough to do. Yet that’s exactly how a team of Minneapolis girls played hoops last year. Hear how that happened, and how it’s changing.

This story appeared on KFAI, and was broadcast nationwide on NPR’s Only A Game.

Capturing video of animals in the wild can be a frustrating endeavor. Photographers often sit for hours waiting for a perfect opportunity that may never arise. But there is another way to get that footage: tiny, custom-made cameras mounted to the backs of the wildlife itself, like an alligator, a wolf, or a tarantula. Hear how a St. Paul-based videographer and artist made the breakthrough… and found himself in the spotlight.

For Patric Richardson, Mondays are sacred. It’s the only day of the week that his small clothing boutique in northeast Minneapolis is closed, and the day is reserved for his most important ritual. With an iron and a bottle of detergent at the ready, he finds his peace in a basket of dirty laundry, and he thinks others can find it there, too.

A Look At Legacy

Some short pieces I produced for Ampers as part of their series, A Look At Legacy, highlighting notable projects funded by Minnesota’s Clean Water, Land & Legacy Amendment.

Latin Alternative Music Conference

I helped broadcast live coverage of the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) in New York City for Sirius XM’s Latin rock channel La Kueva. We quickly recorded and produced short interviews throughout the day with top artists like Carla Morrison and La Vida Boheme:
